Top 5 Cycling Movies

I decided to do some research today and unveil my list of the top 5 cycling movies of all time. Now, the movies aren’t necessarily all about cycling, but the bicycles have had a huge impact on the storyline.

5. American Flyers

Wow, a good film with Kevin Costner – I never thought I’d see the day. Plenty of decent ‘Coors Classic’ footage in this racing picture.

4. Breaking Away

Dennis Quaid’s first ever film and the typical rise-above-all-odds story, except with a bicycle as a supporting actress and not Meg Ryan (ugh).

3. The Flying Scotsman

Jonny Lee Miller plays the role of record-breaking Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree in this biographical film about the man who broke the world one-hour record on a bike of his own design.

2. Quicksilver

A 1985 film about a man who becomes a cycle-courier to pay the bills. It features Kevin Bacon before he flashed his um…bacon to the world in Wild Things.

1.   E.T. The Extraterrestrial

Featuring one of the most iconic scenes in cinema, Elliot and E.T. cycle over the moon and subsequently cement their place in cycling movie greatness.
