It seems to me like merging has become the key word for 2009, and the MTB world is also going to be impacted by many new um…blessed unions.

In Lisbon, the Portuguese Federation (FPC) and Spanish Federation (RFEC) announced that they will be sharing a calendar of racing with the creation of the Copa Ibérica – this will impact the professional, Under 23 and juniors in both road and mountain bike events. While, the MTB competition will include both cross country and marathon events.

It’s also interesting to note that both federations have applied to jointly host the UCI Marathon World Championships in 2012, that I’m sure will be a killer competition!

Wow, seems like these 2 normally soccer-mad nations are really taking cycling seriously, which is absolutely great news for everyone else. Can you imagine cycling through the Algarve all the way to Barcelona?

Can anyone else say EURO TRIP! But not like that really crappy, unfunny movie about horny teachers – that sucked!
