OMG! Have I been sleeping for the past few months? The ultimate of all events, the ABSA Cape Epic is going through an epic (pardon the constant use of the word ‘epic’) revamp. From 2009, the event will be an eight day journey from Gordon’s Bay to the traditional finish at Lourensford, instead of the usual “Knysna to Lourensford” trek.
Over the last five years there have been slight modifications to the routes, but the 2009 version promises a complete overhaul that will make it a true world class mountain biking event, with more scenery and less dirt roads.
The fact that the starting point has been adjusted allows the opportunity for more diverse areas and uncovered routes to be explored. So you know what that means? It’s another event for Project Spandex to completely dominate. (don’t talk about Cycle Club)
Current World and European Mountain Bike champion (and general cycling god), Christoph Sauser, has also agreed that all these new changes will add a fresh, exciting experience to the race.
I can’t wait for the 21st March! I’m as giddy as a chicken, which saw the turkey being slaughtered for Christmas instead!
